Will the draft end the Iraq War fast? What do you think?
Please respond to Stewart Nusbaumer's most recent article here.

I thought that 'D' stood for DICTATOR.
It's time people woke up to the fact.

If it doesn't, I bet a lot of neocons will be damn sorry they ever thought of going off half cocked and a lot of the manure bags on Fox and othet MSM Rambos would soon keep their collective cake holes shut!
There would be such a turnaround in Congress that the Bushevicks would be
emptying their bowels in their shorts at the though that their "fearless leader" would soon be impeached along with that vacuous corrupt Vip and unceremoneously dumped out of office. As for the rest of the facist Jacobians infesting the Whore House, they would soon know what it's like to occupy a 3X5 cell for 4 or 5 years. They should get the same treatment they've doled out to Americans and other innocent people.
It's high time for people to get just plain junk-yard dog mad at what's going down.
My brother fought in that same shit hole in S.E. Asia and I nearly went into the Army myself. After all he was a Heli pilot and I wanted to do the same. After he returned he was a different person and nothing good to say about that damned war. So I just said 'F*** it and realized right then and there it was nothing but B.S. It was then I found my anti war sentiment as well as the realization that this government is run by a cesspool filled with
corrupt, worthless and self serving shit bags who care nothing at all as to the damage they've caused to so many families . Piss on "em. I've had it!
At 54 I don't care what anybody else thinks. I've gone to anti war rallies and spoke up whenever the need arises. I also plan to get involved with counter-recruit groups. MAybe do some leafleting on my own.
The fact that the mealy mouthed son of a Bush, who didn't even have the balls to show up at Reserve meetings shows us what a hypocrite he and others in his social class are like: They support war as long as they can stay home and get richer from it. I hope Chaney has a stroke after he leaves, and spends the rest of what's left of his life drooling all over himself. As for the W, well from what I've been reading he may end up in a rubber room masturbating 24/7. Who knows.
God help us all! But first we must help ourselves. |

Dear Stewart,
I seldom read an article to the end anymore, but yours got my attention in a big way.
I thank you for your ability to say it the way it needs to be said.
With your kind approval, I will go back to my prayer session as I beg the permission of YHWH to make me an avenging angel. My perferred destination is Washington where I promice to bring smiles of satisfaction to the faces of as many patriots as I possibly can.
One thing a draft might do is to create civil disobediance which I also pray for. Only possibility I see for this sad country to survive intact.
Sincerely, William Borgstrom Mobile, Alabama |

Amen Stewart!
Draft pressure would provide sudden strong motivation among draftees and their currently complacent parents. As in 1970 (when I was drafted), the news would become a few degrees more relevant, the daily body bag score just a bit more jolting. Especially if the girls were to be included. |

| Yes, it is about time some one spoke up for all of us who served in the military while others barely had the time to remember what we were doing. Bring all classes in the service and our aggressive foreign policy will change real fast. |

Hear, Hear!
Congressman Rangel had it right too. What he was really saying is that the optional war in Iraq would have never gotten off of the ground had there been a draft. As you so well point out, those who thought that they were most in favor of the war knew that they would not have to do any of the shooting (and ducking.) themselves. They could be confident that no matter how unworthy the cause might turn out to be, it would not involve their sons and daughters directly, or even members of their economic class. Jim |

Stewart,
I have just read your article about the ugly 'D' word at the information
clearing house. Although I have been happy that the UK (where I live)
does not have a draft, I can certainly see your point of view. I was
part of the anti-nuclear movement in the 1980's, and it was impressive
how many middle class people (myself included) joined the cause. They
knew, of course, that if aggressive US policies precipitated a nuclear
war, they and their children would die just as much as everyone else.
Obviously the US does not have a monopoly on aggression, but I do wonder if their mental state is slightly disturbed by the food they eat. There was a study done at a UK prison, in which some inmates were fed a
balanced diet rather than the usual junk food. Although those inmates
behaved on average much better than the others, the study ended when the money ran out. Similar effects have been observed when kids have been fed a better diet at school.
I have never been a soldier, but if my imagination can only generate a
tenth of the real horror, it is enough for me. Please keep up the good work,
David |

I loved your article and would encourage you to add the suggestion that
people who are into reality, volunteer to fill spots on their local draft
board. I did so last year, saying in my interview that I wanted the
position to ensure there would be fairness if a draft came about. (never
again should it matter how much money you had, who you knew, etc... no
exemptions for 'other priorities;...) |

| Stewart, Great article on bringing back the draft. I am printing it out and passing it out to all the redneck chicken hawks I know that wanted us to go into Iraq and now want us to attack Iran. W. H. Martin, C/2/503rd Airborne (I left in '65 while I still had all my body parts.) |

| Whether it does or does not, it's the right thing to do. America has to put an end to substance-abusing fundamentalist millionaires sending the children of ordinary decent people to die while they do whatever it is they do. It'll also slow down the Mexicans...lol the'll start sneaking back out of the country. |

| It all came to me in a flash. Dwindling enlistment? Massive hurricane reconstruction and levies to be built? Millions of illegals? It's time for a variation of the French Foreign Legion. Want to earn US citizenship? Spend three years earning it! It seems that getting your ass blown off in an illegal war in some shithole is a job Americans don't want to do. Show us how much you love America! |

Many years ago, my father told me and my younger brother when we we were enlisting in the Marines in 1968...
"There is an old Warriors saying, Spartan, I think..."Shed no tears for the fallen warrior, for if you come to kill, you must be ready to die..." In other words, think carefully about what you are about to do...This ain't no John Wayne movie. America isn't being attacked. If you pick up a gun and go off to a foreign country to kill and someone kills you, that's the way it goes. In combat, your life is in the winds of fate, and it doesn't matter if you are a grunt, a cook, a truck driver or clerk, if you're over there, you are a target."
He then brought out the old flag that was presented for his brother, a Marine, who was killed during WWII. He told us that we represent America and to conduct ourselves accordingly...
Henry Kissinger stated that, "Military men are DUMB, STUPID ANIMALS, to be used as PAWNS to further US foreign policy"
In my opinion, wars should be fought like they were in the good "ol days...the Kings leading their warriors to battle. The ancient Spartans regarded the use of bows and arrows as chicken shit. Where's the honor and glory when you shoot your ememy from afar? Bring back the batle axes, swords, and clubs. Shed yourselves of your Kevlar, park those Hummers, ground those aircraft and come to the field of honor and glory as EQUALS of your enemy. Fight toe to toe, like the brave warriors that you are. Smell the rotten corpses, the blood and shit, hear the screams and gurgles, feel the warm blood soaking, see the dead and dying...and if you survive your journey on the winds of fate, you may come back to your homeland and speak of the glory of war. |
